Under the control of the virus

Goats are more susceptible to PPRV than sheep.

PPRV, like the other morbilliviruses, has an affinity for two kinds of tissue:

  • lymphoid cells: it is a lymphotropic virus.

  • and epithelial mucosa: it is an epitheliotropic virus.

This dual tropism, lymphotropism and epitheliotropism, explain the disease's clinical characteristics.
